There are several delightful walking routes and trails in and around the town that allow you to explore the area’s stunning landscapes.

Cally Woods and Gardens: The Cally Estate offers several well-maintained walking paths that wind through beautiful woodlands and gardens. Explore the estate’s picturesque lake, bridges, and diverse plant life. The trails are suitable for all levels of walkers.

Gatehouse of Fleet Circular Walk: This is a moderate 3.5-mile circular route that takes you through the village itself, along the River Fleet, and into the surrounding countryside. It’s a pleasant way to explore both the village and its natural surroundings.

The Mill on the Fleet Trail: Follow the path along the River Fleet and enjoy a peaceful walk with opportunities to spot wildlife and admire the historical buildings of the village.

Laggan Whale Bones: A short drive away you’ll find our sister site Laggan. Built into the beautiful Galloway Hills, Laggan provides an excellent starting point for a walk.  Follow the path up the hill from the Snugs and discover giant whalebones which once washed up on the shoreline. 

Rockcliffe to Kippford Coastal Path: A bit further afield, this coastal walk takes you along the stunning Solway Firth. It’s a beautiful route for those who enjoy coastal views.

Kirroughtree is the perfect place to explore the area and see some nature. What was once a a busy centre for lead mining has transformed into a beautiful forest for visitors to explore on foot or bike!

We are based in a coastal part of South West Scotland which has many beautiful beaches on offer. Choose either Carrick, Mossyard or Cardoness to build sandcastles and soak in the sea water.
