International Women’s Day

FROM DETERMINATION TO DESTINATION: THE WOMAN BEHIND LAGGAN

At Laggan, we take immense pride in celebrating the women who shape our world, and today, on International Women’s Day, we shine a light on our very own Director, Vicki McConchie. Her journey is one of sheer determination, relentless hard work and an unshakable vision that has turned Laggan into the thriving destination it is today!

A Drive for Excellence from the Start

Vicki’s story begins with a passion for excellence, first evident in her sporting achievements. As a young athlete, she became the Under-15’s 200m Scottish and Irish Champion, a testament to her discipline and determination. These early victories laid the foundation for the ambition and work ethic that would define her future.

Her academic journey was just as impressive. In 2005, she earned a degree in fashion and business, balancing creativity with commercial acumen. Never one to slow down, she continued to push herself, qualifying as a primary teacher with merit in 2009, reflecting her dedication to education and personal growth.

Laggan: A Vision Brought to Life

Laggan has been in the McConchie family for five generations, and Vicki, alongside her husband Duncan, has played a pivotal role in shaping its future. With a vision for creating something truly unique, she led the transformation of Laggan into an exceptional hospitality and wedding destination it is today.

In 2017, her ideas became reality with the creation of GG’s Yard, an exclusive-use wedding venue designed to offer couples a breathtaking setting to celebrate their special day. Vicki’s meticulous planning, creativity and dedication ensured that GG’s Yard became one of Scotland’s most sought-after wedding venues.

Alongside this, Laggan’s Sea View Snugs were born – cosy escapes nestled in rugged hills, designed to let guests reconnect with nature while enjoying the comforts of beautifully designed accomodation

Her keen eye for design and hospitality extended further when The Murray Arms was added to the Laggan portfolio in 2022. In just four months, the historic building underwent a full renovation, bringing new life to a landmark. The efforts paid off, with The Murray Arms winning the Best Design Hotel of the Year award in 2022.

Hard Work, Family Values & Balance

Vicki’s success is not just about business; it’s about balance. As a devoted mother of three, she understands the value of hard work, time management and organisation. Her ability to juggle business leadership with family life is nothing short of inspiring, and it’s this dedication to both her work and her loved ones that makes her story so relatable.

Her creative side shines through in every aspect of Laggan, from beautifully designed spaces to thoughtfully curated guest experiences. Her passion for offering something special drives everything we do here, and her hands-on approach ensures that every detail reflects the warmth and hospitality that Laggan is known for.

An Inspiration for All

Vicki’s journey is proof that with determination, vision and an unwavering work ethic, anything is possible. Her story inspires not just women, but anyone who dreams of creating something extraordinary. She has built a legacy rooted in family values, hard work and a commitment to excellence – one that continues to evolve and grow.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we are proud to have Vicki at the heart of Laggan, leading with passion, creativity and a dedication to making every guest experience unforgettable.

Here’s to strong women, visionary leaders and the incredible journey that hard work can take you on.

Happy International Women’s Day!
